Skilled Workers

Well-qualified – from the outset

Experts for every field. In Heidelberg and surrounding region, industrial companies and craft businesses are able to recruit highly skilled employees.

The city has joined forces with external partners such as the Rhine-Neckar Chamber of Industry and Commerce and the Mannheim Rhine-Neckar-Odenwald Craft Chamber to train skilled workers for the future. At higher education level, Heidelberg’s Ruprecht Karls University is one of the oldest and most prestigious institutions in the whole of Germany, and in 2012 was once again awarded "elite establishment" status under Germany's "Excellence in Higher Education" initiative. Two clusters of excellence in particular stand out among the university’s top-level international research activities: "Asia and Europe in a Global Context" and "Cellular Networks".

Vocational training. A number of vocational high schools and commercial colleges in Heidelberg provide young people with the necessary practical knowledge and skills to enter the world of work. Courses with a practical focus are offered by private and public institutions such as the University of Education, with more than 4,600 students, and the prestigious SRH University. There are also several "dual" courses on offer at the University of Cooperative Education.

Training in the hotel trade. Anyone wishing to make a career in the hotel and catering industry can study at Heidelberg Hotel Management School – one of Germany’s biggest and oldest hotel management institutions.
