Königstuhl Nordic-walking trail

The Nordic-walking trail on the Königstuhl massif is aimed at beginners rather than seasoned Nordic walkers. Devised jointly by employees of Königstuhl rehabilitation clinic and the forestry department of the City of Heidelberg’s Landscaping and Forestry Office, the trail follows a special route along natural paths especially designed to promote coordination. The inclines are moderate, providing gentle cardiovascular training. However, more experienced Nordic walkers will also get plenty out of this scenic trail. With its varied countryside of idyllic woodland and views down into the Rhine Valley and the ‘Katzenbuckel’ extinct volcano, passing on its way the spa village of Kohlhof, the Posseltslust tower and the memorial stone to Grand Duke Leopold of Baden, it is a delightful way to get your daily dose of fresh air.

How to reach the Königstuhl Nordic-walking trail:

Starting from the Königstuhl
The funicular runs daily every 20 minutes from 9 am onwards from the station Kornmarkt/Rathaus, taking 17 minutes to reach the end stop, ‘Königstuhl’. You can also reach the Königstuhl by car via Klingenteichstraße. There is plenty of free parking on the Königstuhl.

Starting from Königstuhl rehabilitation clinic
Follow the road Klingenteichstraße up the Königstuhl, then take Königstuhlweg to reach the rehabilitation clinic. Alternatively, from the city’s Weststadt district, take Steigerweg as far as the memorial cemetery and follow St. Nikolausweg to the Drei Eichen. From there follow Drei-Eichen-Weg to the Königstuhl rehabilitation clinic. Bus 39 runs directly to the clinic – get out at the stop ‘Fachklinik Königstuhl’.
