International children’s nurseries
Growing up bilingual
Heidelberg is an international city. The city has some 3.5 million visitors every year from all over the world – and also around 45,000 people from some 160 different countries, including many students and scientists, who have made Heidelberg their home. Even in major cities like Cologne, Hamburg or Munich, where 180 countries are represented, you don't find greater cultural diversity. Many children in Heidelberg grow up speaking more than one language and are used to living in an international environment.
Heidelberg firmly believes in supporting children from as early on as possible, and promoting language acquisition is part of the program in all the city’s nurseries. Some parents want their children to learn another language, such as English or French, from an early age, and in Heidelberg this is possible in around ten international children’s nurseries. Staff members are usually native speakers of English or French, and these nurseries also have a different staff/child ratio.
You can find an overview of all care services for children between the ages of zero and six, including child minders and vacation care at the "Mein Kind" portal.
