Gemeinsames Glückwunsch-Schreiben der Literaturstädte

Dear Friends,

On behalf of the seven existing UNESCO Cities of Literature, we are delighted to welcome you to the UNESCO Creative Cities Network. Each of the existing cities has been through the excitement and anxiety involved in bidding to join the network and you have our heartfelt congratulations on the successful outcome of your hard work and inspiration. We very much look forward to working with you over the coming years and hope that you enjoy the moment of accreditation and that your celebrations go on late into the night! The UNESCO Cities of Literature network is a closely knit group of cities whose differences of size, language, geography and history are overwritten by our shared commitment to literature (reading, writing, literary translation, publishing, teaching and much more). Our commitment is to celebrate literature as a means of bringing people together, increasing tourism, promoting education, freedom of expression and the public realm. We have all found that the real benefit of achieving the UNESCO Creative City accreditation comes after the party, when the planning for future projects begins. We will look forward to talking to you then and congratulations once more from all of the existing cities of literature.
