Climate and nature protection
In 2010 Heidelberg ranked third in Germany as 'Federal Capital of Climate Protection' with the largest European passive house settlement in the future Bahnstadt city district, and in 2007 first as ‘Federal Capital for Nature Protection’ due to its meritorious and pioneering action in communal nature protection. For decades, the city administration has pursued a committed environmental and nature protection policy to conserve the unique, thousand-year-old cultural landscape which has become a feature of the city.
