City Youth Council

City Youth Council
(Jugendgemeinderat)

Since 2006 Heidelberg has had a City Youth Council. It consists of 30 directly elected youth representatives aged from 14 to 19 and six advisory members of the City Council. The young people sitting in the Heidelberg Youth Council come from secondary schools, special schools, public secondary schools, grammar schools and vocational schools. The City Youth Council represents the interests of young people to the City Council and its committees and to the Lord Mayor. It has the task of advising the City Council on questions concerning young people in Heidelberg. The City Youth Council is allocated an own annual budget and the young people can decide, to a large extent independently, how this is to be spent.

The members of the Heidelberg City Youth Council are elected for terms of two years.
