Youth exchange:
- Participation by young people from Heidelberg in the International Youth Sports Festival in Bautzen, Jelenia Gora, Jablonec Nad Nisou and Heidelberg organized by the Bautzen district sport association with the involvement of Sportkreis Heidelberg every year since 1994
- School exchange programs
- Participation by Bautzen in the International Summer Science School Heidelberg (ISH), an annual exchange program organized by the City of Heidelberg to encourage young scientists in the twin cities since 1997
Exchange between citizens, associations and institutions:
- Twinning of the Heidelberg and Bautzen housing associations since 1990
- Twinning of the Alt Heidelberg society of deaf people with the Bautzen society of deaf people since 1990
- Visits by citizens’ groups to the “Bautzener Frühling” or the “Heidelberger Herbst” festivals
- International sports symposium with Heidelberg’s twin cities organized by Sportkreis Heidelberg and the City of Heidelberg since 1999
