International children’s nurseries
Growing up bilingual
Heidelberg is an international city. The cityscape is characterized not only by the several million guests from all over the world, but also by the approximately 56,000 people with a migration background from around 180 countries who make their home in the university city - including many students, scientists and scholars. Many Heidelberg children grow up multilingual and are used to an international environment.
Heidelberg firmly believes in supporting children from as early on as possible, and promoting language acquisition is part of the program in all the city’s nurseries. Some parents want their children to learn another language, such as English or French, from an early age, and in Heidelberg this is possible in about ten international children’s nurseries. Staff members are usually native speakers of English or French, and these nurseries also have a different staff/child ratio.
