By the campaign "Words in Resistance. Voices of Ukrainian Authors in Times of War", writers from the UNESCO Cities of Literature Lviv and Odessa were given a forum to share their thoughts and the current situation online in concise words with a German and international audience: Specially created literary quotations and personal statements from a total of ten authors were translated from Ukrainian into German and English by Ukrainian translators.
The literary voices from Lviv are by Halyna Kruk, Anastasiia Levkova, Olha Povoroznyk, Hryhoriy Semenchuk and Petro Yatsenko. From Odessa, Olena Andreichykova, Vladislava Ilinska, Ganna Kostenko, Evgenia Krasnoyarova and Anna Streminskaya are involved. The translations into English were done by Olena O'Lear (Lviv) and Yevhenii Zavolinkovskyi (Odessa), into German by Olga Kovalenko and Stefaniya Ptashnyk (both Heidelberg). Heidelberg author Ralph Dutli supported the event by editing the German translations.
The texts, financially supported by Heidelberg City of Literature, will be published successively here and on social media Facebook and Instagram from Saturday, May 14, 2022, and will also be disseminated internationally through other city channels and the UNESCO Cities of Literature network.
