
Uwe Wenzel
Director of the Mark Twain Center for Transatlantic relations
Uwe Wenzel has been director of the Mark Twain Center for Transatlantic Relations (MTC) in Heidelberg since 2018, where he organizes discussions, research projects, and exhibitions on all topics related to German-American relations.
He received his doctorate in political science from the University of Frankfurt/Main with a thesis on interest group politics among minority groups in the US and has taught political science and American studies at the universities of Chemnitz, Freiburg, and Heidelberg, among others. His academic publications include contributions on the political representation of ethnic minorities, comparative interest group politics, and migration policy.
Before joining the Mark Twain Center, Uwe Wenzel represented the interests of Germany's largest self-governing organization for Sinti and Roma people at the national and international level as a lobbyist for the Central Council of German Sinti and Roma. In addition, he developed and implemented projects for the professional and academic qualification of immigrants for an internationally active foundation and worked for many years in the field of civics education for young people.
