The Baden-Württembergische Versorgungsanstalt für Ärzte, Zahnärzte und Tierärzte (BWVA) is the statutory pension insurance scheme in Baden-Württemberg for employed and practising doctors, dentists and veterinarians

The BWVA grants its participants and their surviving dependants the following benefits:
- Old-age pension as a full or partial pension
- early retirement pension as a full or partial pension

- Death benefit
As a member of the pension fund, you must pay pension contributions as long as you are not entitled to a pension. These determine the amount of subsequent pension benefits in each individual case.
The annual pension contribution is generally twelve per cent of the professional income of the year before last. It is limited by a minimum and a maximum contribution. The following also applies:
- In the first 24 months of initial establishment, you can only pay the minimum levy on application. This applies as long as you are exclusively self-employed.
- Civil servants and non-employed persons can, under certain conditions, apply for a reduction in the pension contribution or a suspension of the obligation to pay the contribution.

Prerequisite
You are obliged to participate in the pension scheme as:
- Member of the State Chamber of Physicians, the State Chamber of Dentists or the State Chamber of Veterinarians, insofar as you are not a member at the time when your compulsory participation would begin,
- are incapacitated for work,
- have reached the age limit or
- Are a civil servant, professional soldier or temporary soldier and for as long as you are exempt from German pension insurance.
Procedure
You can obtain a registration form from the BWVA or download it from the Internet. Fill it out, sign it and send it to the BWVA by post.
You will receive the result of the examination in the form of a notification. If you fulfil the requirements, the BWVA will provide you with your administration number. You should quote this number whenever you contact the BWVA.
You can apply for exemption from compulsory insurance in the statutory pension insurance scheme in favour of the BWVA. The application for exemption from compulsory insurance in the statutory pension insurance scheme must be submitted electronically. You will receive the notice of exemption or rejection in paper form. A separate application for exemption must be submitted for each activity.
Most employers pay pension contributions directly to the BWVA. If you are in an employment relationship, inform your employer of your administration number. If you are not employed or your employer does not pay the contributions directly to the BWVA, you must pay the contributions yourself. This is also possible by direct debit.
